Our Ambleside hostel accommodation;
Its a big old Lakeland Cottage, pretty old and with some great features. Its basically unchanged since 1947 when it became YWCA base accommodation and area office. Its been painted a few times, cleaned lots of times and it does have central heating, good fitted carpets and wash hand basins in most rooms.
There is level access into the car park, 3 steps up to the front porch then level into the lounge and drying room. Up 3 steps to reception, dining, kitchen and outside toilet. Up 4 steps and down 1 step to road(emergency exit)
From reception level up 7 steps to landing with level exit to escape route. Up 6 steps to first floor. First floor has 3 steps for entry to rooms 1 and 2 but level access in to the facilities for male and female. Toilets are quite small. All showers have a step (2 in the male showers) into the cubical’s. Emergency exit through male showers then down 5 steps to level emergency exit. Up 6 steps to Landing and another 6 steps to 2nd floor. Level entry into rooms and toilets. step up into showers. One toilet is quite large, other small. Emergency exit down 12 step steel external fire escape then 4 steps down to level exit route.
Walls are mostly buttermilk cream with white doors and frames providing contrast.
Ambleside Backpackers – private house to holiday/ backpackers accommodation
Before 1947 it was a private house for a wealthy family’s and also a quite famous Lakes artist. In 2002 it was changed to its present use. It benefits from squeaky floors (you would squeak after a couple of hundred years), prehistoric but pretty good plumbing, a great location, windows that rattle in a strong wind, fine lounge, nice rooms and quirky owners.
Rooms can be booked privately for yourself and your friends, or as individual beds in male, female or mixed dorms. All of our rooms are heated and carpeted for your comfort and include convenient washbasins.
All our rooms are furnished with bunk beds to give you an excellent night of sleep before visiting the fells or local attractions in the morning. We offer 57 beds in 1 X two-bed, 4 X four-bed, 4 X six-bed, 1 X 10-bed and 1 X 8-bed rooms for your comfort and convenience.
Make use of our male and female shower rooms before you help yourself our free self-serve breakfast of toast, cereal, preserves and tea or coffee, a good start to your day exploring the Lake District. Or just climb out of bed at 10 to 10 and pile up your bowl and plate before we close the kitchen at 10.00!

Our hostel is equipped with a free Wi-Fi connection (and a prehistoric computer running windows HP that you can use)connected at all hours of the day (you have to be in the right place as the walls are pretty thick).
